A Skate Play is an unprecedented theatrical experience that aims to socially engage youth in public skateparks worldwide. The story is inspired by Richard Bach’s novella Jonathan Livingston Seagull about a seagull who explores the meaning of limitlessness, boundlessness and freedom through the art of flying. Our production brings together skateboarding and theatre – where skaters represent the flight of the birds.

Originally performed in McCarren Skatepark in Brooklyn in 2013, our team traveled to Jayyous, Palestine in 2018, where the play was rehearsed and performed in Arabic for audiences throughout the West Bank. In 2021, the show was brought back to Brooklyn, performed at Golconda Skatepark for local schools, youth, families and community members. Next stop: Snoubar skatepark in Beirut, Lebanon.
