Longtime friends and collaborators, Mariposa Fonsenca and Julia Steele Allen wrote a play through a prison wall. Over the course of three years, they smuggled out this urgent, emotional and profound story. From the inside of solitary confinement, Mariposa’s voice is brought to the stage. From September 2015 to September 2017, Mariposa & the Saint was toured around the country, focusing specifically on states with active legislation or statewide campaigns to limit or end long-term solitary confinement.
