Work in Progress

 

I began creating this piece out of an impulse to remember who I was and discover who I am transforming into. It shares the stories, songs, visions, dreams, embodied experiences, meditative states and ancestral journeys of my world. It is also a journey into releasing oppressive systems of patriarchy, capitalism, colonialism and their impact on my body.

This piece is a wild melange of visions & scenes, rituals & dances and many other performance-based modalities. There are poems releasing ancient lineages of colonization from the back of my heart. There are songs of healing dragonflies. There are movements of revolutionaries, men, crossing the border, bringing a dead body back home. There is rape and there is restfulness. There is mountain and there is jungle. And healing, always healing. Under water and waves and the dark blue of ocean. Healing, always healing, supported by the wisdom of volcanic bird goddesses, teachers and the natural world.

In October of 2023, I led a 5 day residency at Mercury Store with a group of artists, activists, musicians, performers, healers where we explored a shadow of light collectively. Each day we worked with the script as the source of our creative ceremonies. These photos are from a work-in-progress sharing in residency at the Mercury Store.  Folks left the space sharing experiences of profound healing, of remembering, transformation, aliveness of spirit and awe.
